Early Work Experience is Essential

The Antioch College Cooperative Education Program requires part-time jobs during study quarters and full-time jobs during work terms. Students get paid for their work. They earn credit for the Work Portfolios – writing intensive courses that require students to reflect upon their on-the-job experiences and articulate what they learned, the skills they acquired, and the challenges and triumphs of the quarter. The final co-op, which students complete in their final year, is an international job placement that requires students to use the skills they developed in the language minor.

Part-Time Work
All Antioch College students work ten hours per week during each study term. They provide the essential workforce to operate the College and local organizations. Upon arrival on campus each term, students learn about the available jobs, submit resumes for the jobs, and interview with their supervisors. The goal is for all students to be hired by the end of the first week of classes.

Full-Time Work
Antioch College aims to prepare students to live responsibly and effectively in an increasingly complex world. For decades, Antioch College has used work to enable students to live and learn in environments that differ from the academic setting and to broaden their understanding of the world in which they live. The work program fosters learning through a wide range of objectives related to employment and civic life. A thoughtful period of planning before the experience, carrying out the plan, self-assessment, and timely reflection with the student’s advisor make meeting these outcomes a reality.
