: Alzheimer's Rag :
an excerpt by Susan Wheeler
to the tune of "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt"
It's Betty Benderover-hey!
That's my moniker.
I say when someone says,
Look out there goes the prez,
No, it's Ms. Betty Benderover here.
I'd bet the dim windhover one
I'm Monica.
I say when someone says,
Look out Shimon Peres,
No, we're just Betty Benderover.
Ms. Bet Your Best Whomever huh?
That's my name, sure.
I say when Gummo says,
Out yonder is the prez,
None washes better-
Bettina Bendwhatever's hurt
In Mardi Gras.
What say we harmonize?
Look out you'll go crosseyed-
No isthmus-
Mis?bred, she bent a clove or two
That's Monica.
I say when someone says
Look out I say the prez,
No ?
You bet you know what's going on.
But you are wrong
Before this poem's through
You're sure to get your-
Ms. Betty bent your ear forever.
Bent my ear too.
She said when I declared
My feelings should-
I bet he bent her over fine.
That's what I bet.
I say when someone says
Look out-
Ms. Betty goes bump in the night -
That's bailiwicks.
I say Shimon Peres-
All Betty's bric?a?brac befell
A lousy fate.
I say-
A B C DEF GH
I JK L-
Mis'ry doth bend the straightest tree,
That's my name-
Ms. Betty Benderover, how
Came-
Ms. Bets are off or over now-
Ms. Betty bagged-
Mistake-
Miss-
