Antioch College Film Series Tackles GLBT Civil Rights

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio – October 21, 2010 – A new film series presented by the Arthur E. Morgan Fellows at Antioch College addresses the struggle for equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities around the world. "Outing the Past: Witnessing the Struggle for GLBT Rights" begins Thursday, October 28 and runs through December.

Peter Adair, 1977. Antioch College alumnus Peter Adair ,67 produced and directed this landmark documentary about lesbian and gay identity.

Stolen Moments

Margaret Westcott, 1998. This exploration of 100 years of lesbian history and identity features interviews with Audre Lorde, Jean Nestle, Nicole Brossard, Leslie Feinberg.

Stonewall Uprising

Kate Davis and David Heilbroner, 2010. This acclaimed new documentary recounts the dramatic 1969 police raid on the Stonewall Inn in New York’s West Village – and the resistance that sparked a new direction in civil rights.

Kirby Dick, 2009. A controversial look at the hidden lives of some of America’s most powerful policymakers, and the ethics of outing and public exposure.

Out in the Silence
Thursday, December 9, 7:00–9:00 p.m., Herndon Gallery
Dean Hamer and Joe Wilson, 2009. This timely Emmy-winning film documents the homophobic bullying of a teenager in a small Pennsylvania town, and the search for common ground that followed.
