Board of Trustees Winter Meeting

The Antioch College Board of Trustees will hold their winter meeting on campus February 3-5. | Agenda

The community is invited to attend an Executive Briefing by President Mark Roosevelt at 7:30 p.m. in the Herndon Gallery, South Hall.

The Board will hold an open session from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 4.

Leslie Wingard on “Black Men and the Crisis of Faith in Literature and Film”

Leslie Wingard, assistant professor of English at the College of Wooster, specializes in African American literature, black visual culture, and religion and literature. Her current book project focuses on the tension between sacred and secular interests in 20th and 21st century black literary and visual texts. Wingard was the Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Visual Culture at Williams College from 2006-08. She has also held dissertation fellowships from the English department and the Center for the Study of Religion at Princeton University, and the Religion department and Program in Africana Studies at Haverford College. Her article, “As Seen Through Stained Glass: Religion, Politics, and Aesthetics in Alice Walker’s Meridian,—is forthcoming in Religion & Literature.

Patricia Cole: “My Work and Etc.”

Patricia Cole is an Artist in Residence at Antioch College. She is a painter who comes to the college from Bloomington, Indiana, but who most recently had a residency in Johannesburg, South Africa. She will be making a public presentation about her work and her engagement in different cultures made possible through a range of national and international artist residencies.

Reading by award-winning author Jaimy Gordon

The Antioch Review and the Antioch College Writing Institute will host a special reading by 2010 National Book Award winner Jaimy Gordon, beginning at 7 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, in McGregor Hall on the College’s campus. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. In addition to a reading from Gordon’s latest novel, Lord of Misrule, the event will include a book signing and question and answer session.

Exhibition: Nikki McClure: Cutting Her Own Path, 1996-2011

Nikki McClure works with daily life as her subject, black paper as her medium and an X-Acto blade as her tool. Her intricate papercuts form the foundation of a self-made career that now spans self-published calendars, books, t-shirts, posters and more. The exhibition showcases McClure’s unique papercut artwork alongside her popular and better-known calendars, books, and other recent projects.
