Ralph E. Evans 61, of Springfield, died Thursday afternoon, February 2, 2012 in the Dayton V.A. Medical Center. He was born in Springfield on March 5, 1950, the son of the late Joseph Sherwood and Nellie May (Wise) Evans. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He retired as a painter having worked for several painting contractors and finishing his career at Antioch College. He attended the International Pentecostal Church of Christ. Ralph is survived by his wife of 24 years, Brenda Jo (Mounts) Evans; five children, Ralph (Selina) Evans of Springfield, Katina (James) Lebo of Urbana, Misty (John) Taylor of Urbana, Bobbie Jo (Kevin) Reno of Wilmington, and James (Pamela) Evans of Springfield; and grandchildren, Philip, Mary Jo, Tiffany, Kaitlyn, Kathlein, Kimberly, Justin, Mikel, Emily, Seth, Tara, Nykalas, James, Louree, Kathleen, Racheal, and Jamie. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Gatewood and Carol (Jim) Johnson; two brothers, Jim (Charlotte) Evans and William Evans; many nieces, nephews and cousins; dear friends, Linda and Jim Paul; and his many friends in A.A. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sondra Kay Evans; a granddaughter, Bridgette; and his father-in-law, Wilbur ""Wibby"" Mounts. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Ralph's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the International Pentecostal Church of Christ with Brother Richard Blevins officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
