Obituary: Tim W. Stoddard '75

Timothy Wilford "Tim" Stoddard, 60, of Idaho Falls, "checked out" Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, while in the care of his family and Hospice of Eastern Idaho. Tim was born Oct. 18, 1951, in Idaho Falls, the third of nine children. He graduated at the top of his Holy Rosary eighth-grade class and summa cum laude in 1969 from Idaho Falls High School. He attended Antioch College in Ohio and California, Idaho State University, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in math from the University of Idaho. Tim was a master carpenter and woodworker. He found his love of carpentry while attending Antioch College in California. His first master piece was a dulcimer. He established his career 40 years ago by doing odd jobs for family and friends in the Idaho Falls area. His beautifully crafted work signed "TXS" can be seen in many homes, businesses, and churches in our area and around the world. Tim thrived in the outdoors. He was an avid hiker, having trekked many southeastern Idaho and surrounding Wyoming trails. He also enjoyed golfing, cross-country skiing and volleyball. He coached youth volleyball and organized an adult team that played on Tuesday nights. He always quenched the players' thirst with a cooler of his famous "Team Punch." He was an avid reader, cruciverbalist, Sudoku player and blood donor, who often found solace gardening. He was very caring towards animals and always had at least one cat in his workshop. Tim made friends wherever he went. He had the kindest of hearts and could put a smile on anybody's face. While he had many friends, his children and grandchildren were the highlight of his life. He would talk about his kids and introduce them everywhere they went. He was a caring and loving brother to his eight siblings, with a quick wit that delighted family and friends. His passing has created an unnatural tilt in our universe. Tim was married to Ellen Hendricks from 1982 to 1988, and they had three children. He was married to Natalie Sasiani from 2002 to 2005, and they had one child. He is survived by his four children, "Hank" (Mahan) Stoddard of Catania, Italy, Katy (Devin) Ricks of Rexburg, Nattie (Brigham) Hymas of Rexburg and Cecelia "Cece" Stoddard of Idaho Falls; four grandchildren, Jacob, Ayla, Trent and Gemma; seven siblings, Lance (Carole) Stoddard of Junction City, Ore., Maureen (Philip) Moye of Ammon, Lucy (Duane) Kaneko of Murray, Utah, Avis (Larry) Thomas of Ammon, Kevin Stoddard of Idaho Falls, Shannon (Dana) Stoddard of Idaho Falls and Erin (Jewel) Stoddard of Burlington, Vt.; good friend, Mrs. Frances ""Mrs. J"" Johnson of Idaho Falls; and cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends from all over the world. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orrin and Cecelia Stoddard; and his brother, Vincent Roy Stoddard. A private family wake will be held in Tim's honor.
