Obituary: Maxine Scott '37

Maxine Scott passed away on Sunday June 24, 2012 at Waterman Village in Mount Dora, FL. She was 98, and had lived a long and fruitful life. Maxine was born on February 28, 1914, in Belvidere, IL, where she grew up. She attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH. There she met Dwight Scott, and they were married in 1935 in New York City. Dwight served in the FBI during World War II, and the family moved often in accordance with Dwight's assignments. After the war, Maxine and Dwight settled in the town of Merrick, NY, located on Long Island. Dwight worked for General Foods and then Nabisco, from which he retired as Vice President for Government Affairs. Maxine served for many years on the school board of the Merrick public schools. She was president of the board during a time of great school expansion as families moved into the district in the post-war era. Maxine and Dwight had two children, Craig Scott of Berkeley, CA, and Tina Scott of Texarkana, AK. Subsequently they were blessed with three grandchildren and now four great-grandchildren. After Dwight's retirement, Maxine and Dwight moved to Mt. Dora, where they resided for more than 30 years. Dwight passed away in 1990, and Maxine continued with her many activities, which included the Philanthropic Educational Association (P.E.O), Friends of the Mt. Dora Library, the Mt. Dora Yacht Club, the Mt. Dora Lawn Bowling Club, and Hills and Lakes Garden Club of Mt. Dora. In 2004, Maxine moved into independent living at Waterman Village in Mt. Dora. She remained in independent living until her recent transfer to the Edgewater skilled nursing facility at Waterman Village. Even as Maxine's family and friends mourn her passing, they celebrate her long and active life. A memorial service for Maxine will take place on Saturday, June 30, at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Waterman Village. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that anyone wishing to do so make a donation to their favorite charity or organization in Maxine's name. Arrangements are by ALLEN J. HARDEN FUNERAL HOME, 1800 N. Donnelly Street, Mount Dora, FL 32757.
