Obituary: Mary L. Pirozok '81

Mary L. Pirozok, 90, of Springfield, passed away on August 7, 2012 at the Springfield Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on November 30, 1921 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, the daughter of John and Nora (Madden) Regan. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond J. Pirozok in 1974 and her son Anthony J. Mikielewicz in 1981. Although a resident of Springfield for over fifty-five years, she never stopped loving her home state of Massachusetts. In 1974 after the passing of her husband, Mary went on to receive her Associates Degree from Clark Technical College, a Bachelor degree from Antioch, and her Masters from Wright State University, accomplishing her higher education over the age of fifty. For over the last thirty years, until the Spring of 2012, Mary enjoyed her life's passion as a Teacher and Counselor at Clark State Community College where her students meant the world to her. Mary is survived by a daughter, Mary (Mikielewicz) Tierney of Endicott, New York; and her son, Christopher Tierney of Virginia. A son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Sue Mikielewicz of London, Ohio and their daughters: Angela Sargent of London, and Andrea Van Brunt of Kettering, Ohio; daughter, Faith Freeman (Pirozok) of Springfield, and her children, Tommy, Meredith, and Erika all of Springfield. And a grandson, Timothy Ruggles of Springfield, and numerous great grandchildren, many dear friends that made her life complete. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Raphael Catholic Church. Private burial of her urn will be in the Calvary Cemetery. The family gives special thanks to the wonderful caring, loving, and supportive staff at Forest Glen Health Campus, Springfield Regional Medical Center, and Community Mercy Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the Mary L. Pirozok Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Clark State Community College Foundation so that others can experience her love of learning. Donations made to the Fund C/O CSCC Foundation, P.O.
