Amy Louise Nusbaum Garfield '44

Amy Louise Garfield (nee Nusbaum), age 90, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2013. During the World War II years at Antioch, more campus leadership opportunities for women opened up with men students out for US Army service. Amy held the position of Community Manager at Antioch. She was a teacher, reading specialist, and dedicated volunteer for RIF, Reading is Fundamental. Beloved wife for 59 years of the late Dr. Sol L. Garfield. Loving mother of Ann Olszewski (David), Joan Garfield (Michael Luxenburg), Stanley Garfield (Barbara Hayes), David Garfield (Patricia Carter). Grandmother of Julia Olszewski, Edward Olszewski (Elizabeth Norton), Harlan Luxenburg (Paula), Rebecca Luxenburg (Laurel), Roger Garfield, Kathy Garfield, Tracy Garfield and Timothy Carter. Great-grandmother of Davis Luxenburg. Preceded in death by her sister Carla Harris (Earl) and brother Milton Nusbaum (Phyllis). The family would like thank the wonderful staff at Judson Park and Manor, especially Cheryl Hawkins, for the love and care shown to Amy for many years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Judson Foundation, 2181 Ambleside Drive, Cleveland, OH 44106. Services will be private.
