Charles Murray Closz '47

Charles Murray Closz, 93, of Shenango On The Green, New Wilmington, PA, died the evening of Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, New Wilmington. Mr. Closz was born May 1, 1921, in Ann Arbor, Mich., a son of the late Harold F. Closz M.D. and Elizabeth Cox Closz. He married Honora Ganoe Closz '46 on May 28, 1944, They celebrated 70 years of marriage. He retired from Westminster College as controller for the last 11 years of his employment. He and his wife moved to New Wilmington, PA,  in 1974 from Yellow Springs, Ohio, where he worked at Antioch College in the bursar's office. He served his country in the Army as a B-17 pilot during World War II. He enjoyed throughout life hunting and fishing, woodworking, photography and golf. He was a member of the New Wilmington Rotary Club and the Paws and Taws Square Dancers. Most important to him was his family. He was a member of the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Honora G. Closz of Shenango on the Green, New Wilmington; three daughters, Barbara Craig of Sunbury, Ohio, Betsy Field and her husband, Greg, of Sunbury and Linda Winters and her husband, Jerry, of New Wilmington; two sons, Larry P. Closz and his wife, Marsha, of Huntingdon, Pa., and Charles R. Closz and his wife, Jean, of Maryille, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and William Closz; a sister, Betty West; and his son-in-law, Randall Craig. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Lisa Hickman will officiate. Interment will follow at Fair Oaks Cemetery, New Wilmington.
