Obituary: Cynthia Janet Foiles

Cynthia Janet Foiles 75, of Xenia died on Sunday, November 14, 2010, at Hospitality Home East, from complications of a stroke.

She was born on June 3, 1935, in Coquille, OR., and was raised near South Charleston, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Margaret Triplett Storer, and a brother, Stewart, and his wife, Nona; and a half brother, Jim Godfried. She married her husband, Gene, on May 30, 1957. They have two sons, Marshall (Michaele) and Merrill of Xenia; grandsons, Taylor and Matthew of Kettering; step-grandchildren, Josh, Brittany, Adam and Emily; and nephews Tim and Mark Storer.

Jan graduated from Olivet Nazarene University and taught school in Xenia for 16 years. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Upon retirement from teaching, she became a Real Estate Broker and had her own business. Jan worked closely with Boy Scout Troop 165. Her sons and one grandson were members of this troop and received their Eagle Scout awards with her help.

Jan volunteered freely with her time for many community projects. She was honored by the City of Xenia as Volunteer of the Year in 2000, the City of Xenia in 2002 for a tree planting project, Glen Helen in 2006 with the Dick Fowler Volunteer Award, Glen Helen in 2007 with the Helen's Heroes Award for the most volunteer hours spent removing invasive plants, Catharine Greene Chapter D.A.R. with the Conservation Committee Award for the Preservation of the Natural Resources, and Master Gardeners Presidents Award in 2009. She will be remembered for her love of birds and traveling.

Visitation will be at the Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, from 6-8pm. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Thursday, November 18, 2010, at 11am, with Rev. Brian Maguire officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
