David J. Roha '74

David Jeffries Roha, 63, of Salem Township, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, at his home with his loved ones surrounding him. He was born May 7, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Max Roha and Mary (Chapman) Roha. David grew up in Brecksville, Ohio, and received his undergraduate degree from Antioch College. He went on to receive his master's degree from University of California, Berkeley, and his doctorate in Electrochemical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio. He was employed by Alcoa Corp. as a senior scientist from 1990 until his death. His work with Alcoa resulted in more efficient aluminum production methods for which he was awarded patents. David was a passionate scholar of history and science, attaining extensive knowledge in a variety of fields, which he readily shared in a manner that made it easy for anyone to understand. David was devoted to his wife of 28 years, Eve (Sheehan) Roha. He was a remarkable father who raised his children to embrace new opportunities and expand their horizons. His many interests included traveling, historic battle reenactment, genealogical research and gardening. David was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (Chapman) Roha. He is survived by his wife, Eve; children, Rebecca (fiance Renny Young), Melanie (fiance James Aley), Max, Samuel (fiancee Shandra Peelman) and Olivia; father, Max; siblings, Catherine and William (Ann); and many nieces and nephews. His dogs will miss his quiet attention. A longtime student of his beloved teacher, David passed away with gratitude for the life he had been given. Dignified to the end, David was quiet, brilliant, and an extraordinary provider for his family. He will be missed every day. A memorial service, where the family will greet friends and relatives, was held at BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Lane, Delmont, 724-468-8381, followed by a simple reading at 8:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, people are invited to send donations to David's favorite humanitarian organization, TPRF, using the following website: <http://www.tprf.org>, P.O Box 24-1498 Los Angeles, CA 90024. Condolences may be left on David Roha's online guest book.
