James David Sleeper of Medford Leas died Wednesday, May 25, at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly. He was 95.
Mr. Sleeper was born in Mount Holly, the son of the late George Mathis and Clara Nichols Sleeper. His father was the owner and publisher of the Mount Holly Herald for many years.
Mr. Sleeper was a graduate of Mount Holly High School and received his Bachelor's degree from Antioch College in Ohio. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and served in the South Pacific. After the war he received his Masters degree in Industrial Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia.
He worked for S.S. White Technologies in Piscataway, N.J. For many years Mr. Sleeper lived in Moorestown, and in the later part of his life, he resided in Medford Leas. He was active in Boy Scouting, and the YMCA. While he was at Medford Leas, Mr. Sleeper was active in that community as a member of the Medford Leas Residents' Association.
Husband of the late Mary Jane Beyer, Mr. Sleeper is survived by two sons, J. David Sleeper Jr. of Medford and his wife, Janet, and Edward M. Sleeper of Maple Shade. He also is survived by four grandchildren, Margaret, James D. III, Pamela and Brian; and by six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three siblings, G. Howard, S. Myron and M. Eleanor Rogers.
Funeral services and interment will be private. There will be no calling hours.
