Jan Asch transitioned peacefully from this life on Sunday, May 19, 2013. She was the only child of Dr. James T. and Marianne Davis Asch who predeceased her. A loyal child of Marietta, Ohio, she attended undergraduate school at Antioch College and graduate school at Columbia University. She lived in Manhattan for 30 years and was a counselor at City University of New York where she touched many lives. As a resident of New Orleans since 1994, she was devoted to New Orleans music, culture and the Saints. An avid reader and lover of books, Jan was loved in return by the staff and patrons at Maple Street Book Shop, her dream retirement job. Jan is survived by her spouse, Ann Patteson, her beloved four-legged, Reggie, as well as many dear friends and chosen family both in New York and New Orleans. Her kind and loveable nature, her sharp mind and clever wit endeared her to many who miss her already. Everyone loved Jan. Jan was active in the Episcopal Church, serving as Senior Warden at Grace Church where she was a founding member of the local Integrity chapter. A fair-minded champion against all prejudice, she was passionate about human rights and worked for equality for all. A Celebration of her life will be held at St. Anna's Episcopal Church, 1313 Esplanade Avenue on Saturday, May 25, 2013, Visitation at 1:00 pm; Memorial Service at 2:00 pm with repast to follow at the church.
