Jay Marion Jackson II, attorney and long time Highland Park resident, died on November 2, 2010. He turned 99 on October 3, 2010. He had lived at the Forum in Dallas, Texas, for the past 10 years.
Jay was a corporate attorney for TWA (5 years) and Braniff International (37 years). He started as the assistant to the Legal Council at TWA and completed his career as the Corporate Secretary and General Council at Braniff.
Born on October 3, 1911 in Kansas City, Missouri in his grandfather's home. He graduated from Westport High School in Kansas City where he was president of his senior class. He attended Antioch College in Ohio and received his law degree from the University of Missouri: Kansas City Law School in 1936.
He went to work for Hardware Mutual Insurance Company in Wisconsin and married Emily Tandy of Houston in 1940. They celebrated their 70th anniversary on February 17th of this year.
His goal to work for an airline was achieved in 1940, when he became a lawyer in TWA's legal department. He moved to Dallas in 1945 to join Braniff Airlines. He managed Braniff's legal work and served on the Braniff Board of Directors. He retired in 1978. After retirement, he consulted and maintained active status with the State Bar of Texas until his death.
Mr. Jackson was an Eagle Scout and was active in his sons' scouting careers (all were Eagle Scouts). He was also active in the Society of Corporate Secretaries and St. Michael and All Angels Church.
Mr. Jackson was well liked by all who met him. He took time to know everyone and would offer advice or assistance when he could. He played golf and tennis in his retirement and enjoyed traveling. He was well known for his memory abilities and lifelong love of learning.
He is survived by his wife, Emily; three sons, Jay M. III (wife Jo-Ellen) of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, Roger Tandy of Leander, TX and Thomas Frank (Betty Martin) of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren, Laura Koupal (Chris), Ellen Jackson and Jay M. Jackson IV, all of Denver, CO and Kristine Jackson of Austin,TX; and two great grandchildren, Charlie Koupal and Josie Koupal of Denver, CO.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2010 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Restland Wildwood Chapel. Memorials may be made to Autumn Journey Hospice, 5347 Spring Valley Rd., Dallas, TX 75254
