Laura Slattery, 85, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014. Laura was born in 1928 in Passaic, New Jersey and grew up in Brandon, Vermont. She and her parents, the late Galen O. Hutchison and Kathleen Hutchison, moved to Brandon, Vt., in 1934. Laura attended Forest Dale School and graduated from Brandon High School in 1947. She attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, majoring in Psychology. Fellow students at Antioch included Coretta Scott King and Rod Serling. Laura married Donald Slattery of Chicago, Illinois in 1951. They moved to Stuart, Florida in 1998. Laura was a homemaker, and also was sales representative for training materials. She also handled the accounting for her husband's business. She was active in the Stuart Unitarian Church as membership chair, worship leader and committee person. She is survived by husband Donald, daughters Judith Plumb (Gregory) and June Saunders (Alan), brother Galen Hutchison (Sally), brother-in-law John Slattery (Lois), grandsons Glen and Paul, and several nieces and nephews. A small family service will be held in Brandon, Vermont on Sunday May 4.
