Marcia Russell Eager of Middletown, died peacefully with her family by her side on June 13, 2010. The daughter of George Russell Jr. and Hilda Hodgkins Russell, she was born April 29, 1927, in Sloatsburg, NY. She graduated from Suffern High School in 1945 and Antioch College in 1950.
She was a legal secretary for the law office of her late husband, Samuel W. Eager, Jr. She was the devoted wife and graceful dance partner of Samuel, and loving mother of daughters, Karen Schroeder, Alison Eager, Rosalind Mailander and Ellen Dunham.
A member of Grace Episcopal Church in Middletown, NY, she served as chairperson of its Memorial Committee, participated in the choir, and served on the Vestry and Discernment Committee. Together with her husband, she organized and promoted six ""Tea Balls"" and the first two ""Mall Balls"" for the benefit of the Guild of St. Margaret Soup Kitchen and the Middletown R.E.N.T. program.
Marcia and Sam were members of the Mid-Hudson Valley Ballroom Dance Club, the Orange Squares Dance Club, and the D & H Square Dance Club. She served as a member of the Historical Society of Middletown and Wallkill Precinct and of the Junior League of Orange County. She did volunteer work for the American Red Cross, The Sarah Wells Girl Scout Council, and as a ""Gray Lady"" at Horton Hospital.
She is survived by daughters: Karen and her husband, Karl, Alison, and Rosalind and her husband, William; grandchildren: Amanda Romaine, John W. Callahan, Brett Callahan, Rebecca Schaible and William Schaible; great-grandchildren: Riley Callahan, Devyn Callahan and Russell Romaine; her sister, Georgeanne Campaigne; several nieces and nephews. Her daughter, Ellen and sister, Constance Young, predeceased her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, Middletown, with Father John Warfel officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Grace Episcopal Church or another church or charity of the donor's choosing.
