Obituary: Roger File ’50

Plainwell, Michigan: Roger File, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away quietly at his home in Plainwell on Sunday, October 10th, 2010.

Roger was born to Paul and Jennie (Wells) File in Cassopolis on December 5th, 1928. He is the last of his generation of Files, being preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, including Marion File, of Kalamazoo in 2006.

Roger is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ruth (Mahar) File; three children: Kathy File of Chicago, Jennifer Loftus (Robert) and Rick (Victoria Thornell) of Plainwell and six grandchildren: Melissa and Emily Gonser of Chicago, Patrick and Elliot Loftus, Sam and Tom File, all of Plainwell; and many nieces and nephews. oger graduated from Antioch College and attended law school in Washington D.C., but left to serve as a Corporal in the Army during the Korean War. After graduating from Wayne State Law School, Roger joined Troff, Lily and Bonow in 1954 and married Mary the same year. He retired from the practice of law in 1984.

An avid outdoorsman, Roger had a passion for gardening and planting trees. He and Mary spent half the year in Stuart, Florida, where he loved to fish every day. Roger was active in many community organizations, serving on the boards of the Jaycees, Plainwell Schools and Pipp Community Hospital.
