Obituary: Thomas Jordan

MANCHESTER, NH -- Thomas Francis Jordan, 72, died Nov. 28, 2010. He was born in Manchester, Sept. 29, 1938, to John and Agnes (Gardner) Jordan.

He initiated the city of Manchester Employee Assistance Program where he worked from 1989 to 2010. He kept a private practice treating alcohol and drug abuse users, coordinating structured interventions.

He attended St. Anselm College and was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran from 1956 to 1959. After serving his country he became a union iron worker for 26 years. He eventually earned his master's degree in psychology from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

He was a beloved family man and friend to many. He loved golf, nature, his animals, God, having fun at others' expense, sports, reading, photography, painting, woodworking, fried clams and San Francisco.

Family members included his wife of 42 years Louise O. (Claughton) Jordan of Manchester; three sons John Jordan of San Francisco; Dwayne Jordan of Raleigh, N.C., and Anthony Jordan of Manchester; three daughters, Kelly Jordan of Manchester; Erin Jordan of San Francisco, and Linda Shaughnessy of Nashua; one brother, John Jordan of Manchester; two sisters, Peggy Lemay of Manchester and Ann White of Florida; four grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., Manchester. A service will follow at 8 p.m. Donations may be made to New Horizons Shelter, 199 Manchester St., Manchester 03103.
