:: Community Meeting is Tuesday, January 8
Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a restorative and restful break. The next Community Meeting is Tuesday, January 8, from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m.
Faculty and staff will be sharing specific information on department projects to keep students and fellow employees informed. This portion of Community Meeting would be about 15-20 minutes in total.
Community Council encourages everyone to please attend every Community Meeting this term. The format is changing so that small groups will not happen every week and presentations will happen near the end of the meeting in case folks need to go. Your presence is so important.
:: Change in transportation to the Roosevelts’ today
FACULTY & STAFF ONLY:
In order to get everyone to the party at the Roosevelts’ today in an efficient manner, we have rented a “fun” bus for transportation.
The bus will leave from in front of McGregor every 15 minutes beginning at 2:45 and take faculty and staff to and from the party until after the party ends at 5:00 p.m.
I strongly encourage all faculty and staff to take the bus. There will be no place to park if you drive your own car.
Thanks for understanding and we’ll see you all this afternoon!
:: New faces on campus
There are a few new faces on campus today: Rebecca Fensler, in the Office of Alumni Relations; Kelly Quigley, on the faculty as the new Science Tech; and Amy Tressler at Glen Helen in the Outdoor Education Center.
In other hiring news, Kyle Lewis, Jake Siemer, and Dustin Wulfeck are now full-time on the property management staff.
Please welcome and congratulate everyone this week. It’s great to see our Antioch family growing.
:: Bookstore information/hours
The bookstore hours for this week are as follows:
Monday: 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Tuesday–Friday: 1:30–4:30 p.m.
Reminder! The bookstore has moved from McGregor to the Olive Kettering Library. Anna Hogarty will be there during those hours. She has not permanently moved to the space yet, so those are the only hours provided. Library staff will not be permitted to sell books at this time.
:: Faculty and Staff 401(K) information
Attention faculty and staff interested in participating in the college’s 401(K) program:
There will be a half-hour presentation from Kevin Duffin, representing our 401 (K) provider on Wednesday, January 23 at 9:00 a.m. (location TBD). The presentation will be a summary of our program and the benefits. Please try to attend if possible.
Duffin will be scheduling private appointments with employees to fill out their forms after the presentation until 3:00 p.m.
:: Grant news from Linda Fuselier
I received a grant from the Llewellyn Foundation that will fund workshops that bring community members from the YS Senior Center to campus to work on plant propagation. It also funds some greenhouse repair and a student research job in the winter.
A bit more information on the grant follows:
Program: Intergenerational Community Building in Yellow Springs
Description: Senior citizens and college students will work together to propagate plants for Glen Helen forest restoration, Antioch Farm, and containers for homebound seniors.
We propose to strengthen community connectedness by creating intergenerational learning opportunities. In partnership with the Yellow Springs Senior Center (YSSC) we will invite elder community members to Antioch College to work with college students on plant propagation projects that give back to the local community. Intergenerational groups will propagate native species to plant in forest restoration areas in Glen Helen, grow berry plants to add to the Antioch farm, and will produce heirloom container vegetable plants to be distributed to homebound seniors.
Goals: The goals of this project are to:
- Enhance health and wellbeing in our community while restoring wild areas, feeding the campus community in a sustainable way, and brightening the homes of homebound seniors.
- Strengthen community ties through intergenerational learning environments that promote community service and connectedness.

:: Antioch College Menu and Dining Hall information
The North Hall Dining Room opens at 12:00 p.m. and we serve until lunch until 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. We ask that faculty, staff, and visitors offer $5.00, paid via the “honor system” to a deposit safe located near the front entrance of the dining room. We also ask that shoes and shirts be worn in the dinning room at all times and that food not be taken “to-go” unless you are unable to join us for a meal during the established meal time. Thank you!
