:: A note from President Mark Roosevelt

Dear Antioch College community,

On Tuesday, October 2, at 3:15 p.m. in the South Gym, we have our annual convocation with the incoming class of students and their families. It is an important event in the life of the College and in the lives of our guests. I strongly encourage all faculty and staff to attend the convocation and, for a little fun and conversation, to remain on campus for the barbecue on the main lawn at 6:00 p.m.

During the whole orientation period, I urge you to reach out and introduce yourself to the new students and make them feel welcome.

Thank you in advance for your attendance at these events and continued dedication to the College and the students we are privileged to serve.

Best,

Mark

:: Orientation/Move-in Day volunteers still needed

Orientation check-in is from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2. The Office of Community Life needs faculty/staff volunteers to help with moving students into North Hall and manning tables at South Hall in the Herndon Gallery.

Anyone who can help out for any part of the day would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Louise Smith at lsmith@antiochcollege.org to volunteer.

:: Resident assistant training update

This past week, five of our current students received a week-long training to prepare them to serve as resident assistants in North and Birch Halls.

Ethan Kellaway, Maya Lindgren, Guy Matthews, Nargees Jumahan, and Sam Senzak all participated in sessions as varied as rock-climbing and leadership skills (facilitated by Randle Chalrles and Johanna Kohout); CPR and risk management training; sessions on the SOPP with former SOPP advocate Ann Hembre and the Alcohol and Drugs Policy with Cheryl Smith, former substance counselor at Antioch; and health and wellness education for themselves and their residents.

Having just a short weekend on either end of the training week, our new RAs showed enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication. Joining them was Maya Nye, who has been hired as Resident Life Manager. During new student orientation, our RAs will lead three evening hall meetings as well as host some fun activities on Friday night for our new students.

:: Volunteer at the Yellow Springs Street Fair

Antioch College is the premier sponsor of the Yellow Springs Street Fair on Saturday, October 13. Do your part and volunteer for a shift to man the Antioch College booth!

Just like the past few years, each shift will be 30 minutes. The fair begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. PLEASE sign up, via e-mail, to Ashley Couch at acouch@antiochcollege.org as soon as possible.

:: Antioch Farm needs volunteers!

Autumn is a gorgeous time to be on the Antioch Farm. Join other community members, staff, and students to help prepare our farm for winter, tend our fall crops, work in our greenhouse, or care for our chickens and ducks.

Farm Volunteer hours are Saturdays, 1:00–3:00 p.m. Meet on the Antioch Farm.

Call Kat Christen for more info at (937) 477-8654.
