In the autumn of 2008 the Board Pro Tempore began the development of an ambitious concept for Antioch College. This early concept was reviewed by educational leaders and endorsed by the Great Lakes Colleges Association as one part of the documentation required in the negotiations leading up to the independence of the College.
College leadership will use this concept as a platform for discussion and research in the launch of a comprehensive planning process to develop a unique program based in the historic educational values of Antioch College commonly known among alumni as the “Three C’s: Classroom, Co-Op and Community”
To achieve this objective, the College will fund and support a superlative rigorous academic program that will emphasize an interdisciplinary approach to the liberal arts, offering a small number of well-resourced disciplines facilitated by a seminar model of teaching and learning. Antioch College will also remain the only liberal arts college in the nation to require a comprehensive off-campus co-operative work program of all its students. Co-operative education will continue to link theory and practice and support the development of independence and accountability in our students.
With early support and leadership from those on campus in Yellow Springs, the College will also need and encourage broad participation in the planning process by alumni, friends and experts in various fields.
